Things To Do In Santa Rosa Beach

The other day someone asked me, “What are some things to do in Santa Rosa Beach“?

I thought to myself, “What isn’t there to do?” There are so many things to do in Santa Rosa Beach, I found myself thinking, “Santa Rosa Beach isn’t a place one could say they were bored.

Things To-Do In Santa Rosa Beach

Beaches of South Walton

The first thing that came to mind was the endless miles of beaches. They are FREE to enjoy, and are great for kids.

I remembered when my boys were little they liked to play in the sand. As the boys got older it was so much fun to see them skim boarding. Now as young men they enjoy fishing from the surf.

Speaking of fishing, it’s always fun to take the boat out in the Choctawhatchee Bay. Who doesn’t like fresh fish for dinner? Redfish, trout and mullet are practically everywhere. Even if you are not a pro fisherman you can certainly catch a few.

Sometimes we hook the water toys up to the boat and pull the kids around trying to see who can hold on the longest. They can even take out the kayaks or get on the YOLO Board.

Have you heard of YOLO boarding? A YOLO board is simply a stand-up paddle board. But to people many in the area it’s much more than paddle boarding; it’s a way of life.

There are many paddle board companies in the area that not only rent YOLO boards, but offer lessons as well. Then, once you get really good, you can enter into one of the many YOLO Board races that take place each year.

When my kids were younger they also belonged to the various children’s football, soccer, baseball and basketball leagues. Occasionally they play a round of golf at one of the 20 golf courses within 15 miles from the center of Santa Rosa Beach.

Yes, that’s right, 20 Golf Courses!

My youngest is on the high school tennis team. Whether you like playing on grass, clay or hard courts there is one for your particular style. You will find 30 tennis courts within minutes of your home.

Shopping and Dining

I like to shop and eat. Shopping is made convenient in Santa Rosa Beach as we have 3 national chain grocery stores, 2 Publix and a Winn Dixie.

The Silver Sands Factory Outlet is the nation’s largest outlet center with over 100 stores. Some popular names are Polo, Saks Fifth Avenue, Nike and The Gap.

Grand Boulevard is host to fabulous dining and shopping, and is convenient to the beaches of South Walton. It’s beautifully landscaped that makes it nice for leisurely walks around the Town Center.

Also located at Grand Boulevard is a 10 screen, 1800 seat, “state-of-the-art” Carmike Cinema. This movie theatre is expected to be completed by the end of 2012.

Flemmings Steak House is one of my favorites, and Tommy Bahamas has a fabulous happy hour and retail store.

If you are in the mood for a margarita then Cantina Laredo will not let you down. And I can’t leave off the fresh fish being served at Mitchells Fish House.

Conclusion

So if you dream of living on the Gulf of Mexico, you can make one of Santa Rosa Beach’s gulf front homes yours, and always have something to do.

Or, are you a boater? If you are you will want the north side of Santa Rosa Beach on the bay. You can easily hop on your boat for a fresh catch dinner or a cruise in the moon light.

Santa Rosa Beach has something for everyone, which makes it a great place to live!
